The Chapel on the High Street was built when
Cranleigh was just a small village. Since then, the village has grown
to the size of a small town - and the church has grown too.
For some years, the sheer numbers of church attendees
made it impossible for us to meet on a Sunday morning in the Chapel,
so we met at Glebelands School from Easter 1998, first in the Assembly
hall, and then the larger Sports Hall.
We looked at a range of alternative options for
what to do about this, including moving to another site. We have now redeveloping
our site at 262 High Street to accommodate both our Sunday services and
our various mid-week activities.
The development converted the existing main church
building into a meeting room, reception and offices, and built a new auditorium
on our existing car park.
Phase I was to build the new auditorium, (allowing
us to continue meeting in the existing Church building on Sunday evenings,
and use all the other ancillary buildings during the week.
This phase is now complete, and all sunday services are now held back at the High Street site, leaving our long term, but temporary, home of Glebelands School, now empty on a sunday morning!
Phase II (converting the existing chapel) is nearly there too. withe the downstairs rooms now being used for childrens groups on sunday mornings, and teh office space above, to be complete very soon.
Below shows the year long process of Phase I.
